Kim Vorrath - who played a key role in perfecting the Vision Pro software and has 36 years of experience working at Apple, has just been appointed to the company's artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning department, serving as a "deputy" to AI Director John Giannandrea, according to information from Bloomberg.
At last year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple made a big splash with its AI initiatives, dubbed Apple Intelligence.
However, these efforts have yet to have the same impact as OpenAI's ChatGPT or Google's Gemini.
Notably, the Siri upgrade, which allows the virtual assistant to understand what's on the screen and perform actions, may not appear until iOS 18.4. Additionally, the AI-powered news summary feature will be discontinued with iOS 18.3 after receiving criticism about the accuracy of the content.
The appointment of Vorrath, who worked on the first iPhone software, to the AI team shows that Apple is looking to apply a more rigorous approach to AI development.
At the same time, this also reflects that Apple may be valuing artificial intelligence as a more important factor than Vision Pro in the future.
Apple's artificial intelligence team is said to be focused on improving Siri's infrastructure and enhancing the company's internal AI models.
