Police in Arvada, Colorado have turned to AirTags to help reduce the number of car thefts in the area, a clear demonstration of the usefulness of the $30 device.
Since Apple launched AirTags in 2021, the device has revolutionized the way stolen vehicles are found and recovered, making the process faster.
The success rate of AirTags prompted the Arvada Police Department to hold its first free event to give away the devices on January 19, 2025, CBS Colorado reports.
In addition to the GPS device, each resident also received a warning sticker that read: "Warning — Vehicle with GPS device: This vehicle may be tracked by police if stolen!"
One local resident who expressed support for the scheme said: "Hopefully this warning sticker will act as a deterrent to thieves."
Apple is expected to update AirTags in 2025. While the external design is expected to remain unchanged, the updated version could offer higher location accuracy and a wider operating range.
