Developing the digital economy is the key to building a smart city
On the afternoon of September 22, Da Nang City opened the Da Nang City Digital Economy Development Workshop in 2025.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Ho Quang Buu - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City - said that the 1st Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term set a general goal by 2030: to continue to strengthen the work of building and rectifying the Party and the clean and strong political system; digital government, smart cities, modern administration; promote democracy, revolutionary traditions, cultural identity and the strength of national solidarity.
The Congress identified the city as effectively implementing specific mechanisms and policies, promoting private economic development, maximizing investment resources, making the city a growth pole of Vietnam; being a pioneer in developing science, technology, innovative startups, digital transformation; a center for culture - sports, education - training, high-quality healthcare, an attractive destination for the world.

For Da Nang, developing a digital economy is not only a strategic task to improve competitiveness, but also the key to building a smart, creative, livable and sustainable city.
"In recent years, Da Nang city has implemented many breakthrough solutions and achieved some encouraging results in the field of building a smart city, digital transformation associated with administrative reform and developing a digital economy.
Da Nang City (formerly) has been leading the country in the provincial digital transformation index (DTI) for 4 consecutive years (including the 3 pillars: Digital government, Digital society and Digital Economy); 5 consecutive years being honored as a typical smart city of Vietnam", Mr. Buu informed.
Setting a digital economic target of 40% of GRDP
Recently, Da Nang City has been implementing a number of important infrastructure projects: Lien Chieu Port (smart), Free Trade Zone, International Financial Center; started construction of CNC Viettel building, International Data Center in the High-Tech Park, Put into the international land cable line of VNPT, through 5 countries: Vietnam (Da Nang) - Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore.

According to Mr. Buu, recently, on September 10, 2025, Secretary of the City Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet signed and issued Plan No. 21 on implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation in Da Nang City (new); in which, a number of major targets were identified by 2030.
Accordingly, the scale of the digital economy will reach at least 35-40% of the city's GRDP (National at 30%); at least 1 digital technology enterprise on par with advanced countries operating in the city (National at the target of 5); at least 2 new offshore cables will be put into operation (National at the target of 9).
Deploy at least 2 more concentrated IT zones; have 1 more international data transit station (digital hub); have at least 1 more international data center; Piloting and moving towards officially trading digital assets via NFT; attracting a number of enterprises with a revenue of at least 1 billion USD to set up research and production headquarters in the city; have at least 1 digital technology enterprise with 15,000 employees or achieving revenue of 2 billion USD/year;
"To achieve the above digital economic development goals, Da Nang hopes to receive the support of experts, business groups, and domestic and foreign organizations. The city is committed to creating a favorable environment, transparent policies, and providing full support so that new innovative initiatives and solutions can be effectively applied to practice," Mr. Buu emphasized.
