According to Strava, in this update, the platform will add 5 new types of activities, including: basketball, cricket, dancing, padel and volleyball. This expansion aims to help more than 180 million users worldwide can record more accurately the sports they are practicing daily.
Previously, users participating in the above activities were forced to record them under the common "Workout" category. With new separate categories, performance and training data will be tracked in more detail, in addition to the more than 50 sports that Strava currently supports.
Among the new sports, padel is particularly emphasized by Strava, as this sport is growing very rapidly globally, with an estimated 30 million amateur players.
Strava also said it will continue to add more sports and other activities in the near future, but has not announced the specific list or implementation timeline.
With the continuous expansion of its operating portfolio, Strava shows its ambition to become a more comprehensive fitness tracking platform, meeting the increasing diversity in users' exercise habits.
Updates like this not only help training data reflect more realistically, but also open up room for Strava to develop deeper community analysis, comparison and connection features in the future, as more and more new sports are being put on the platform.
