On the afternoon of March 7, 2025, the Customs Department held a series of important conferences to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation. The event was chaired by Director of the Customs Department Nguyen Van Tho.
Determined to transform digitally
At the conference, representatives of the Department of Information Technology and Customs Statistics emphasized the importance of adapting and promoting innovation in the context of rapid development of science and technology. Since Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW was issued, the Customs Department has assigned the Information Technology Department to preside over research and development of a plan for implementation throughout the industry.
These plans aim to complete digital transformation in professional processes, including 100% automation of customs procedures, application of artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and automatic customs monitoring. Policies to support businesses, increase training and foster in-depth human resources in science and technology are also of interest.
Reorganizing the entire apparatus, appointing new leaders
Within the framework of the conference, the Customs Department held a meeting to say goodbye to retired leaders under the regime, including comrade Dinh Ngoc Thang, former Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs. Director Nguyen Van Tho expressed his deep gratitude for the great contributions of the comrades in the development of the customs sector.
In addition, the Conference announced Decision No. 382/QD-BTC on the regulation of the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Customs Department, officially effective from March 1, 2025. At the same time, Decision No. 877/QD-BTC of the Minister of Finance announced the appointment of 3 Deputy Directors and 12 heads of key departments of the Customs Department.
The conference also announced the decision to appoint 20 Heads of Regional Customs Branches to enhance management efficiency and improve the operational capacity of the customs system nationwide.
Improving management efficiency
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Chi emphasized the arrangement and consolidation of the entire apparatus of the Customs Department to ensure effective and transparent operations and meet the requirements of socio-economic development. He also suggested that units review and reduce administrative procedures such as licenses, specialized inspection conditions, tax policies, customs procedures, etc. to simplify and optimize customs clearance procedures.
The Customs Department also set a goal of upgrading information technology infrastructure, building a large-scale data warehouse, connecting with the national database. The application of digital technology to risk management, post-clearance inspection and automatic customs supervision will continue to be promoted to enhance management efficiency, combat trade fraud and ensure international trade flows.
