In a presentation on the topic "Spaces on the journey of developing the digital cultural industry", Mr. Tuan emphasized that the belief in copyright and creativity that is not properly protected is one of the most painful issues in digitizing cultural industrial products.
Vietnam sets a target for the cultural industry to contribute 7% to GDP by 2030, and 9% by 2045. In addition, the scale of digital cultural industrial products accounts for over 80% of the total number of cultural industrial products according to the development strategy to 2045. This goal is associated with the orientation of making culture an important economic pillar.
According to Mr. Phan Vu Tuan, digitizing cultural industrial products is a major challenge, as there are still 5 major gaps. Regarding institutional implementation, "we have documents, but the guidance is not up to par," Mr. Tuan shared.
Regarding data infrastructure, Mr. Tuan pointed out the current reality that many Vietnamese artists are still heavily dependent on YouTube, because there is an automatic copyright recognition system - Content ID. This is something that Vietnam still does not have.
In addition to the figures on copyright infringement at the 2026 World Cup, market research company Media Partners Asia also forecasts that losses due to online video copyright infringement in Vietnam in 2027 could reach 456 million USD, with over 15.5 million people regularly watching illegal content.
Vietnam also does not have many businesses playing a fundamental role in the cultural industry. Creative products are invested with a lot of effort and intelligence but have not yet been recognized as assets to be able to borrow capital from banks, invest in other channels...
Digitizing cultural industrial products will be one of the topics discussed by experts at the Ho Chi Minh City Technology Day - Conviction 2026. The event will take place on August 14 and 15, at Thiskyhall Conference Center (10 Mai Chi Tho, Sala Urban Area, An Khanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).
