In an interview on November 30 (local time), billionaire Elon Musk had a conversation with Nikhil Kamath, co-founder of Zerodha (a prominent Indian financial services and brokerage company) about the future of work, the development of AI and the ambition to expand Starlink satellite internet service in the country.
The conversation quickly went viral, attracting more than two million views on YouTube in a short time.
One of Musk's outstanding views is predicting a post-work society where labor will no longer be a duty.
According to him, the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and robots will create a major turning point in just the next 10'20 years.
I believe that working will become an option. If you think of something, you have it, Musk said.
He also believes that all goods and services can be created thanks to AI, helping people live in a state of "if you want to do it, do it".
This view is similar to that of many other technology leaders such as Bill Gates, Jensen Huang or Eric Yuan.
However, Musk expressed an optimistic stance amid the AI context that has also contributed to a widespread wave of layoffs in recent months.
Contrary to this view, AI father Geoffrey Hinton warned that the AI race could make billionaires get rich quickly, while millions of workers are at risk of losing their jobs.
In the social media topic, Musk said that the future of X ( social media) in particular and the internet in general will tend to be real-time videos powered by AI.
He commented that the amount of video data is now far beyond text, becoming the most consumed form of content in the world.
Most of the interaction will be real-time videos. AI will be involved in understanding and creating real-time videos, Musk stressed.
This trend also appeared on Meta and YouTube as these platforms are pushing for AI-generated content, but is still controversial due to concerns about the quality of content on social networks.
At the end of the conversation, Musk shared his desire to deploy Starlink in India, a potential market with more than 1.4 billion people.
Starlink is now present in more than 150 countries and is completing the necessary licenses in India. Musk said Starlink will serve as a supplement to existing major network operators, especially in rural areas where internet quality is low.
However, he also affirmed that Starlink is still unlikely to fully meet the needs of crowded cities.
The interview between Musk and Kamath has opened up many new perspectives on the drastic transformation that AI, robots and global connectivity will bring. A not-so-distant future where work, communication and internet access can change completely.
