A new leak says the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is still only IP48 water and dust resistance, equivalent to the previous Fold 6 generation. This has disappointed many users, especially when there were previous rumors that the Fold and Flip 7 series would be equipped with better capabilities.
Of course, IP48 standards are still a significant improvement if looking back in the past, when foldable phones were once considered unlikely to be water-resistant. However, in the context that Google is expected to launch the Pixel 10 Pro Fold with comprehensive dust resistance in August, Samsung's failure to catch up has disappointed many people.
Samsung has only upgraded the Fold and Flip models to IP48 standards since last year; before that, the company only met IPX8 standards - waterproof but not dustproof. If Google is truly successful with Pixel 10 Pro Fold, it is likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 launched next year will not stand out from the dust race.
However, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 still promises to be a leap forward in design: keeping the familiar look but expanding both screens, while the body is significantly thinner. All will be revealed at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9.
