Google's new artificial intelligence (AI) tool, Learn About, is developed from the LearnLM model with a clear educational orientation, different from chatbots like Gemini or ChatGPT.
Learn About goes beyond answers and delivers textbook-style content that emphasizes deep understanding. From interactive answers to contextualized scenarios that help users build vocabulary, Learn About provides supplementary information to clarify the meaning and importance of learning topics.
When tested with the question “How big is the universe?”, Learn About and Gemini both answered that “the observable universe is about 93 billion light years in diameter.”
However, the presentation of each tool is markedly different: While Gemini uses diagrams from Wikipedia and provides source links, Learn About uses images from Physics Forums and accompanies scholarly material. This helps users not only access information but also grasp broader context.
In particular, the Learn About tool is able to identify misleading or misleading questions. When asked a joke like “What is the best glue to spread on pizza?”, the tool identified this as a “misconception” and issued a warning accordingly, showing that Google has optimized to help users identify common information errors.
Learn About comes as Google faces a wave of powerful AI learning from rivals. The tool is expected to help users learn more deeply and discover knowledge by providing academic results suitable for self-directed learners.
