Meta Platforms has just announced a strategic partnership with Arm Holdings, the world's leading chip design company, to enhance the power of artificial intelligence (AI) systems to promote recommendations and personalize content on Facebook and Instagram.
According to Meta, its social media applications will use a Arm-based data center platform to operate ranking and content suggestion systems, which is a key factor in helping users explore more relevant information.
Integrating Arm technology is expected to bring higher processing performance while reducing power consumption compared to traditional x86 architecture systems of Intel and AMD.
The deal marks a major step forward for Arm, a company backed by SoftBank, as its chip architecture continues to expand beyond mobile to serve as a data center andCP. These are both core markets that Intel and AMD are dominating.
Notably, Meta said it will invest $1.5 billion to build a new data center in Texas, its 29th location globally, to meet the growing demand for AI work.
In addition, the two companies also announced that they are working to optimize Meta's open source AI software for Arm architecture.
These improvements will be made public, allowing the global technology community to access for free, thereby promoting software compatibleity, which is one of the biggest barriers to the popularity of Arm chips in the data center field.
Meta and Arm affirmed that they will continue to develop open source projects, aiming to accelerate efficient AI application, save energy and expand technology access for the entire industry.
