Metro is the latest feature integrated into the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen application. To use this feature, people need to log in to the application and link it with their VNeID account. Then, the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen application will provide a QR code for people to use.
Urban Railway Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) officially operated on December 22, 2024. With the approval of the City People's Committee, Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC) has deployed a cashless electronic ticket payment system on urban railway line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien), while waiting for the ticket collection system (AFC system) of contractor Hitachi to be completed and put into use. In which, QR code is used on mobile phone applications for use when taking the train.
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen application has been deployed since November 14, 2024, providing people with information and effective public utility services aimed at creating habits for people to use public services in line with the digital transformation trend.
At the meeting on December 31, 2024 at the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center chaired by the Center's Director - Ms. Vo Thi Trung Trinh - with the participation of HURC1 Company, FPT IS Company and Mastercard Asian, the parties agreed to integrate the feature of issuing metro tickets using QR Code into the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen application.
Accordingly, from January 2, 2025, people can create QR codes on the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen application to take the train for free from now until January 20. From January 21, those who are exempted from or have reduced fares and passengers using monthly tickets will register directly on the application to receive QR codes. In particular, students can link to e-wallets or bank payment applications to buy monthly tickets and receive discounts.
HURC believes that integrating the metro ticket issuance system using QR codes on the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Citizen application will not only help people save time but also contribute to promoting the habit of using public transport and digital services.
