This is the first metro line of Ho Chi Minh City, nearly 20km long, connecting from the center to the eastern gateway.
According to the decision, passengers paying in cash will pay from VND7,000 to VND20,000 per trip depending on the distance. If they choose to pay cashless, the price will be slightly reduced, from VND6,000 to VND19,000 per trip.
For monthly tickets, passengers can travel unlimited times at a price of 300,000 VND/person. Students receive a 50% discount, down to 150,000 VND/month.
Passengers can also choose to buy a daily ticket, priced at VND40,000/day, or a three-day ticket for VND90,000.
During the first 30 days of commercial operation, Ho Chi Minh City will support all ticket prices to encourage people to experience Metro Line 1.
It is expected that the city budget will spend about 15.7 billion VND for free operation and 17.3 billion VND to support 17 metro-connected bus routes during the same period.
Also on November 21, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued the price of public passenger transport by train for Metro Line 1 at VND341,910/km. This price includes the cost of labor to maintain the urban railway infrastructure, excluding the cost of property insurance (fire, explosion) and electricity for machinery and equipment at the Depot, station, and control center.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is also submitting to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council a separate resolution on cases of exemption and reduction of ticket prices for Metro Line 1.
It is expected that from January 1, 2025, policy beneficiaries such as people with revolutionary contributions, people with disabilities, the elderly (over 60 years old) and children under 6 years old traveling with adults will be completely free when using Metro Line 1. It is estimated that the cost of support for this group of beneficiaries is about 10.7 billion VND per year.
Metro Line 1 project started in 2012 with a total investment of over VND43,700 billion. The metro line includes 11 elevated stations and 3 underground stations, expected to serve about 39,000 passengers per day in the period 2025 - 2027.
After 12 years of construction and many progress extensions, the project is now 99% complete and is expected to be commercially operational from December 22, 2024.
Metro Line 1 is expected to not only reduce traffic pressure in the eastern part of the city, but also contribute to changing travel habits and promoting sustainable socio-economic development for Ho Chi Minh City.
