Marks of "Hey Plex" appear in application code
Samsung is said to be preparing for a notable change in how Galaxy users access artificial intelligence. According to recent technology reports, the company may integrate AI Assistant Perplexity directly into Galaxy phones, accompanied by a new voice activation command called "Hey Plex".
If this plan becomes a reality, Galaxy users in the future can call AI assistants just by voice, similar to how "Hey Google" or "Hey Bixby" are working.
This move shows that Samsung is looking to expand the AI ecosystem, instead of just relying on familiar assistants on the Android platform.
The latest leaked information comes from the analysis of the Android source code of the Perplexity application, performed by Android Authority along with the independent code analysis source AssembleDebug. In version 2.69.3 of the application, experts discovered many strings of text showing that Perplexity is testing the ability to activate voice via a separate keyword.
These codes suggest that users can call the Perplexity assistant even when the phone screen is off.
To use, users need to agree to the application collect voice data, accept relevant terms and record personal voice samples to help the system recognize accurately. In case of need, users can also delete the old voice sample and reset it from scratch.
Dependent on the integrated microphone of the device
Another noteworthy point is that the "Hey Plex" voice command seems to only work through the built-in microphone on the phone. If users are connecting Bluetooth headphones or external microphones, the application may request to disconnect these accessories.
This approach shows that Perplexity's voice activation feature directly depends on the hardware inside the device, similar to how Samsung is managing assistant awakening commands on the Galaxy line today.
In addition, the source code also revealed the emergence of new system-level services, linked to Samsung devices. These services include the ability to make calls via keywords and a dedicated service to detect alarm commands.
It is likely that Perplexity will take advantage of the voice recognition software platform that Samsung has developed for Galaxy devices.
Possible launch with Galaxy S26 line
Not stopping there, some image files in the Perplexity application package also suggest that this AI assistant may be pre-installed on some Galaxy models in the future. Previous reports suggested that Samsung is considering introducing cooperation with Perplexity along with the One UI 8.5 update.
This software version is predicted to appear with the Galaxy S26 line, expected to be launched at the beginning of next year. If so, the Galaxy S26 may become the first line to integrate Perplexity, bringing users an additional choice of AI assistants besides existing solutions.
In the context of AI increasingly playing a central role on smartphones, Samsung's testing of the "Hey Plex" voice command shows that the company is seriously looking for new approaches to bring a smarter and more flexible experience to Galaxy users.
