The bootloader unlock feature will allow users to interfere with the startup system for many different purposes.
In the US, Galaxy users have been unlocking their Bootloader for a long time. However, in many other countries, Samsung is still leaving this feature open. That is changing with One UI 8. Reports collected from the update show that the OEM Unlocking option in developer mode has disappeared.
This is noted on the beta version of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 models, which already had One UI 8 installed when launched. A piece of code in Samsung's firmware and user feedback confirmed this.
For the majority of Samsung users, this change has almost no impact.
Most smartphone users never come across the advanced options and less often, any operation that requires unlocking the bootloader. However, this move is a regrettable thing for technology enthusiasts, those who prefer custom ROM installation, or simply root the device to expand features.
It is not yet clear whether Samsung will apply this change to the Galaxy devices in circulation, but that possibility is entirely possible. In recent years, many other Android brands have also tended to tighten the ability to unlock bootloader.
