According to a report from Japan, Sony has now stopped self-producing its own Xperia devices. This information was reinforced when the "smartphones" category was removed from Sony's manufacturing websites in Thailand and China.
Previously, these websites had listed smartphones in the list of manufactured products, but in recent months, this section has quietly disappeared.
However, this does not mean that the Xperia line has ended. According to the report, the recently launched Xperia 1 VII model continues to be produced, but is no longer managed by Sony's internal teams. Instead, the production of the device is being carried out by a third-party company.
Sony has used outside partners to produce mid-range phones for some time, but expanding this model to a high-end line such as the Xperia 1 VII marks an important turning point. This seems to completely end Sony's production of its Xperia phone.
Transferring production to a third party could be beneficial in cost savings, especially as Sony faces growing competitive pressure. However, the selling price of the Xperia 1 VII has not yet reflected this change, as the device is still listed.
This change shows that Sony is restructuring its operations in the mobile segment and although Xperia has not disappeared, stopping internal production could be the first step for broader adjustments in the future.
