Previously, this Lens was launched in September but was only for paying users. With Imagine Lens, users can enter reminders to edit or create new images on their own Snap.
For example, you can ask for Turn me into an extra world after taking self-taking photos, Snapchat will give suggestions for users to try changing their outfits and appearances to suit. This feature can change both your friends and explore many other creative ideas. The results can be shared with friends, posted on Story or downloaded outside the application.
This move comes as major platforms such as Meta and OpenAI launch a series of new AI video tools (Meta AI, Sora) to attract young people with the ability to create content that goes beyond conventional photo editing. Under such competitive pressure, Snapchat sees opening a free AI lens as a strategic move to retain users.
Previously, AI Lens was only available to subscribers to the Lens+ and Snapchat platinum packages. Now, the company says it will expand to all users, with limited images created for free. The initial phase will be deployed in the US, then expanded to Canada, the UK and Australia.
According to Snapchat, users on the platform are accessing these AI Lens more than 8 billion times a day.
