Sharing at the 2025 Global Mobile Equipment Exhibition (MCW) taking place in Spain, Mr. Li Peng, Senior Vice President and Chairman of Huawei's ICT Equipment Services and Business Department, said that network operators can make the most of AI (artificial intelligence) to exploit the full value of the telecommunications network.
He predicted that the coexistence between the 5G-A and AI networks will help increase the number of users and the average revenue per user from mobile subscribers. He pointed out 5 key points around this issue.
AI is changing human-PC interaction, creating different late-in requirements
With advances in AI, HMI (interaction between people and machines) is developing from simple text-based communication to voice, gestures and more multi-modal interaction. As a result, human-PC interaction is becoming more real-time and convenient than ever, creating a new wave of innovative applications.
However, to support applications like this, networks need to be able to provide network systems with guaranteed latency, which will require continuous development from the 5G NSA to 5G SA network and especially 5G-A.
Producing and distributing AI-enabled content is improving the speed of upload and download
According to Li, AI will transform the way content is produced and distributed. AI recommendations are aimed at more viewers than ever, allowing more personalized content to be distributed to a wider audience on the Internet.
This will cause traffic to skyrocket in the next 5 years, creating unprecedented demand on the network. To keep up with demand, network operators will need more frequency, larger network capacity and much larger uplink and downlink bandwidth.
Diverse AI services will require coverage networks to focus on experience
It is forecasted that by 2030, cloud phones and cloud storage devices will have more than 1 billion users, and users will need to quickly access the power of cloud computing.
To meet these needs, network operators will need to continuously improve their network deployment, from quickly expanding 5G NSA networks to 5G SA networks to have more seamless indoor/outdoor experiences and finally the 5G-A network focusing on experiences.
The complexity of the network will promote the application-oriented operation and maintenance process
AI will bring more complex application scenarios and a series of more diverse experience requirements. From a network perspective, AI will promote changes from traditional operations and maintenance (O&M) that consume a lot of resources to a more application-oriented approach.
Accelerate 5G-A deployment to increase revenue in the AI era
Right now, network operators around the world are actively exploring new ways to increase revenue from experiences based on many factors such as speed, latency and benefits of VIP customers.
Typically, Chinese carrier is collaborating with more than 100 industries, including insurance companies and restaurants, to provide New Calling AI services through open API. This has helped them increase their income from industry customers by 10 times.
