Windows 10 stops supporting, users can extend security until 2026 with simple tips

Windows 10 will end support on October 14, but you can still get security updates with the simple tips below.

Microsoft confirmed that it will officially end Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. After this time, the operating system familiar to millions of users around the world will no longer receive security updates, patches or technical support, unless you use a small tip called ESU (Extended Security Updates), according to hindustantimes.

For devices that are not eligible to run Windows 11, or users who are not willing to invest in new hardware, the ESU program for Windows 10 is a suitable solution.

This is an enhanced security update program provided by Microsoft, helping to extend security support by 1 more year, until October 13, 2026.

However, ESU is not free for everyone. Users need to pay $30 at a time to register. In some cases, you can exchange Microsoft Rewards points for free, or get a gift when purchasing a new device from Microsoft partners.

How to register for ESU?

The program is only available with Windows 10 version 22H2, the final stable version of this operating system.

Users need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and find a link to register for ESU. After completing the eligibility test, you can choose to participate by buying directly or exchanging points.

In addition, if you back up your system and your Microsoft account has enough points, you can get the ESU for free. Microsoft also said that the registration interface will display the total Rewards score so that users can easily choose the appropriate participatory method.

Who is ESU for?

This is an ideal solution for those who use old devices that cannot upgrade to Windows 11, and do not want to invest in new computers. Or want to continue using Windows 10 for another year at a reasonable cost.

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars to upgrade hardware, paying $30 for an additional year of security updates could be a cost-effective and safe option.

In the context of many businesses and individual users not being ready to switch platforms, ESU is a "connector" to help maintain system security while waiting for a longer solution.
