Supplementing omega-3 from eating dinner properly

Kiều Vũ |

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid group that plays an important role in the heart, brain, vision and body's anti-inflammatory process.

Because the body cannot produce omega-3 in sufficient amounts, supplementation through daily food is essential.

Dinner is a suitable time to supplement omega-3 because this is usually the most nutritious meal of the day, helping the body effectively absorb healthy fats.

The top choice to add omega-3 to dinner is fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring and tuna. These are foods rich in EPA and DHA – two forms of omega-3 with high biological value, which are directly absorbed and used by the body. Fatty seafood is the richest source of EPA and DHA in the diet.

An ideal dinner can include grilled salmon served with green vegetables and brown rice. Steaming, boiling, or grilling helps retain more nutrients than deep frying. The American Heart Association also recommends eating fish, especially fatty fish, at least twice a week to support cardiovascular health and increase natural omega-3 levels.

For those who do not regularly eat fish, you can supplement with plant-based omega-3s such as chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, or soybeans. These foods contain ALA – a form of omega-3 that the body can partially convert into EPA and DHA. A plate of green vegetable salad mixed with chia seeds or a few walnuts after dinner is a simple but nutritious choice.

To supplement omega-3 effectively in dinner, you should prioritize fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel or sardines, combined with green vegetables and whole grains.

If you can't eat seafood, ALA-rich nuts like chia seeds and walnuts are useful alternatives. Maintaining this habit regularly will contribute to supporting cardiovascular, brain and overall long-term health.
