How to supplement omega-3 with a very nutty fruit

Kiều Vũ |

Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid group that plays an important role in cardiovascular health, brain health and the ability to control inflammation in the body.

When mentioning omega-3, many people often think of fatty seafood such as salmon, mackerel or sardines.

But some fruits can also support the process of indirect omega-3 supplementation, including dragon fruit - a familiar, nutritious and easy-to-use fruit in daily meals.

In fact, dragon fruit is not a rich source of omega-3 like sea fish. However, dragon fruit seeds contain a small amount of unsaturated fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6. When eating whole dragon fruit and chewing the seeds thoroughly, the body can absorb beneficial nutrients from the seeds better.

In addition, dragon fruit is also rich in fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants, contributing to supporting cardiovascular health - one of the benefits often associated with an omega-3-rich diet.

To maximize the nutritional value of dragon fruit, this fruit can be combined with other omega-3-rich foods. For example, blended dragon fruit smoothies with chia seeds or flax seeds will significantly increase omega-3 content in the diet. This is a suitable choice for breakfast or snacks, both nutritious and supporting weight control.

Dragon fruit salad combined with nuts such as walnuts and almonds is also an attractive dish to help supplement healthy fats.

Another way is to use dragon fruit as a dessert after meals with fatty fish. This combination not only increases omega-3 levels but also supplements antioxidants and fiber, helping to balance nutrition.

Adults can eat about 200–300g of dragon fruit per day as part of a diverse and healthy diet.

It is important to note that dragon fruit cannot completely replace major omega-3 sources such as sea fish, flax seeds, chia seeds, or walnuts.

Instead, this is a fruit that supports overall nutrition and contributes to building a balanced diet.

Combining dragon fruit with other omega-3-rich foods will bring better effects for cardiovascular health, brain health and the body's anti-inflammatory process.
