Helps reduce blood sugar
Ginger may have a positive effect in helping to lower blood sugar levels – an important issue for people with diabetes. However, this effect depends on many factors and is not a substitute for medication.
According to a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, ginger contains bioactive compounds such as gingerol, shogaol, and zingiberene, which have the ability to improve insulin activity and help increase glucose uptake into the body's cells. Researchers believe that ginger may help reduce blood sugar by improving the ability of cells to use glucose, thereby supporting blood sugar regulation.
Long-term use of ginger powder may help reduce fasting blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. Ginger also helps reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels, which are important risk factors for diabetes and heart disease.
Doctor's prescription required
However, despite studies confirming the effects of ginger on lowering blood sugar, experts from the World Health Organization and the American Diabetes Association still recommend that diabetics should not arbitrarily replace their medications with herbal remedies such as ginger without a doctor's prescription. Ginger can support treatment but is not strong enough to replace conventional medical therapy, especially in cases of severe diabetes.
