According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. BS Bui Thi Nhung (Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Nutrition Association, Head of the Nutrition Department of Sun Hospital), people with gout need to pay attention to avoiding some habits in eating and living to limit the risk of complications.
1. Avoid eating too many purine-rich foods
According to experts, patients should limit foods high in purines such as beef and some types of seafood, especially when there is already hyperuricemia.
Consuming too many of these foods can increase the risk of urate crystals forming in joints.
2. Avoid abusing bone broth
Many people think that bone broth is nutritious, so it is good for health. However, for people with gout, this is not a suitable choice.
Experts recommend that patients should limit bone broth because it can contribute to increasing uric acid in the blood.
3. Avoid eating too many sweets and candies
Cakes and sugary foods are also a group of foods that people with gout need to limit.
Consuming too many sweets can increase uric acid, thereby increasing the risk of acute gout attacks.
4. Avoid unbalanced diet
Many people only focus on abstaining from a few types of food and ignore the balance between nutrient groups.
According to experts, people with gout still need to maintain a reasonable diet between carbohydrates, protein and fat, and allocate food appropriately to effectively control the disease.
5. Avoid subjectivity in controlling uric acid
Many people only adjust their diet when gout attacks appear, while uric acid control needs to be maintained for a long time.
Building a suitable diet and limiting foods that increase uric acid is an important solution to help prevent gout recurrences and support effective disease control.
