According to experts, proactively adjusting diet and lifestyle is an important solution to help prevent this complication.
According to Prof. Tu Xiaowen, Director of the Nephrology Department, Special Medical Center of the Missile Army (China), sharing on Xinhua, many people only care about the risk of gout when they detect high uric acid, ignoring the effect of this condition on the kidneys. For a long time, high uric acid can damage kidney function, making treatment more difficult and increasing the risk of developing into chronic kidney disease.
To prevent kidney disease due to increased uric acid, Prof. Tu Xiaowen believes that it is necessary to simultaneously control common risk factors, especially high blood pressure and obesity.
According to experts, people with high blood pressure need to limit the amount of salt in their diet. While the average amount of salt consumed by Chinese people is about 12-13 g per day, people with both high blood pressure and high uric acid should reduce it to about 6 g of salt/day to help control the disease.
For overweight or obese people, weight control through a reasonable diet is an important factor in helping to reduce uric acid levels. In addition, people who have a habit of smoking or drinking alcohol should actively give up these habits to limit the risk of kidney damage.
In addition to diet, physical activity also plays an important role. Prof. Tu Xiaowen recommends that everyone should maintain exercise at least 5 days a week, about 30 minutes a day to improve metabolic health and support uric acid control.
According to experts, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, combining a scientific diet and regular exercise not only helps control uric acid but also contributes to preventing kidney disease, reducing the risk of long-term complications and improving the quality of life.
