Healthy kidneys thanks to this nutritional principle

The kidney is an important organ that helps filter the blood, eliminate toxins, balance water, electrolytes and regulate blood pressure.

Because it takes on many important functions, maintaining a reasonable diet is a fundamental factor to protect the kidneys.

Some nutritional principles to help reduce the burden on the kidneys:

The first principle is to drink enough water, but not drink too much. Water helps the kidneys filter waste better, limiting the risk of crystallization to create stones. However, forcing too much to drink can overload the kidneys, especially in people with heart disease or kidney failure. The appropriate amount of water depends on individual needs, physical activity and environmental conditions.

The second principle is to limit salt. A salty diet causes the body to retain water, increases pressure on the kidneys and contributes to high blood pressure - the leading risk factor for chronic kidney failure. Reducing processed foods, pasta, canned foods and spices high in sodium is an important step in protecting long-term kidney function.

The third principle is that protein control is also very important. Although protein is necessary for the body, consuming too much, especially from red meat, will increase metabolic products that the kidneys have to eliminate. People at risk of kidney disease should prioritize protein from fish, beans and lean poultry in moderation.

The appropriate protein level varies depending on your health condition. For normal people, they should eat less than 1.2g/kg of body weight, for people with kidney failure it should be reduced to 0.6-0.8g/kg and less than 80g/day if they have kidney stones

The fourth principle is a diet rich in green vegetables, low- potassium fruits and whole grains. This diet helps provide antioxidants and fiber, which help reduce inflammation and improve metabolism. However, for people with late-stage kidney disease, it is necessary to choose foods that are suitable for potassium and phosphorus levels in the blood according to professional instructions.

The fifth principle is to limit sugar, saturated fat and alcohol, because they cause weight gain, increase blood sugar, and dyslipidemia - factors that damage the kidneys over time.

Adhering to these nutritional principles not only helps keep the kidneys healthy but also improves overall health, preventing many dangerous chronic diseases.
