Vegetables

Green vegetables contain a lot of fiber. Entering the digestive system, fiber helps the intestines limit purine absorption, supporting lowering the blood uric acid index. Besides, green vegetables contain very little purine. In nature, up to about 70% of green vegetables contain less than 50 mg of purine/100g of vegetables. Meanwhile, the safe limit for purine consumption for gout patients is 400 mg/day. Therefore, if gout patients are still hesitant and do not know what to eat to reduce uric acid, consider choosing green vegetables.

Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, tangerines, grapefruits, kumquats...) are foods that help eliminate uric acid effectively because they contain a lot of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps enhance the reuptake process in the kidneys and supports the body to eliminate uric acid through an effect called uricosuric (increased urinary excretion). Therefore, you should add citrus fruits to your daily menu.

Perilla leaves

Perilla leaf extract also shows the effect of inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, disrupting part of the purine metabolism process. Thanks to that, adding perilla leaves to your diet can help you improve blood uric acid levels, limit joint pain caused by gout outbreaks.

Apples

Apples contain a lot of malic acid and citric acid - two types of acids that when metabolized in the body, will form citrate and malate salt compounds, with alkaline properties (pH>7). Increasing the consumption of alkaline fruits, typically apples, helps the body increase uric acid secretion through the kidneys. This makes apples an effective uric acid-excreting food recommended by many nutritionists to add to the diet for people with gout.

White radish

Thanks to being rich in potassium, white radish is an ideal food for people with gout. Supplementing potassium helps alkalize urine by increasing the concentration of potassium bicarbonate in the kidneys, allowing uric acid to dissolve into the urine easily and be excreted. In addition, white radish contains a high amount of water (accounting for 95% of the mass), helping the kidneys enhance the effect of filtering and removing uric acid from the body.

Cucumber

Cucumbers contain a lot of potassium and water, so they have the ability to stimulate the kidneys to secrete uric acid effectively. In addition, cucumbers also contain many antioxidants with strong anti-inflammatory properties such as flavonoids, lignans and triterpenes. As a result, consuming cucumbers can significantly help you improve the frequency and degree of swelling and inflammation in joints when gout breaks out.
