The opening of the school year marks children starting a year of studying with teachers and friends in a new environment. Many European parents have applied simple but highly effective methods in psychological preparation to help children be confident to integrate and be ready to enter a new journey.
Encourage children to actively make friends
Many European parents apply methods to help their children develop naturally. When starting the new school year, Western parents encourage their children to actively get acquainted with schools, teachers and especially make new friends. Children can get acquainted, chat and play with friends to find common topics, avoiding feeling lost or unfamiliar in a strange space.
Ask open-ended questions
European parents also often ask suggestive questions so that young children have the opportunity to talk about school, class, and friends on their first day of school. For example, ask the question "what makes children happiest?"; or "Do teachers and friends provide support when they need it?"... All question-and-answer conversations will help children frankly share, and parents can also easily grasp the psychology or difficulties they may face.
Teach children to resolve small conflicts themselves
When participating in a learning environment with new friends, children are very likely to have small conflicts that sometimes make children sad and bored. European parents choose to teach their children to face and resolve conflicts within their ability. Guiding children to express their emotions, know how to listen to friends' opinions to adjust and find appropriate solutions to help children quickly resolve all conflicts.
In more serious situations, parents need to intervene promptly to prevent children from being in a state of anxiety, worry, or even fear of going to school every day.
