correct understanding of skin in changing seasons
Changes in temperature, humidity and wind can cause the skin to be unbalanced, leading to dryness or excessive oil secretion. When the air is cold and dry, the skins natural protective barrier weakens, allowing excess oil and acne-causing bacteria to grow, says Dr. Aseem Sharma, a dermatologist at Nanavati Hospital (India).
A study in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases shows that up to 62% of people have skin problems caused by climate change, especially acne and dermatitis.
5 steps to keep skin healthy and rid of acne
Choose a gentle cleanser: You should use the type that suits each skin type. Oily skin should choose a gel that contains salicylic acid, while dry skin should prioritize products that do not contain sulfate. Avoid washing your face too much as it can dry out and irritate your skin.
Moisturize your skin every day: Whether oily or dry, moisturizers are still needed to protect the skin barrier. Choose products with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or amino acid, apply while the skin is still moist to increase effectiveness.
Use sunscreen all year round: UV rays can damage the skin even in the dry weather. Use a SPF 50 wide- spectrum sunscreen every day, reapply after 3 - 4 hours if you are outdoors for a long time.
Keep pores clear: Limit thick cosmetics, replace with non-oily products. Wash your face twice a day helps remove sebum and dirt, reducing the risk of acne, Dr. Sharma advises. You can use additional products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to support deep cleansing.
Stay hygienic and choose breathable clothing: You should wear sweat-absorbing cotton clothes, wash your pillowcases and towels regularly. Bacteria accumulating on fabric surfaces are one of the common causes of acne and dermatitis.
Changing your seasonal skin care routine not only helps prevent acne but also increases skin's resistance to environmental factors. A healthy and beautiful skin does not come from sophistication, but from small, regular and proper steps every day.
