Tips for saving air conditioning electricity from the Japanese military
During prolonged hot days, the demand for air conditioning increases, causing many families to worry because electricity bills are escalating.
Recently, an air conditioner saving tip shared by the Tokyo Local Cooperation Headquarters of the Japan Self-Defense Forces has received much attention on social networks.
According to information posted on the official Instagram account of the Tokyo Local Cooperation Headquarters (@tokyo_pco), the main reason for the high electricity bill is due to "sunstroke" heaters. Harsh weather, outdoor heaters being strongly heated will reduce the ability to dissipate heat, causing air conditioners to operate at higher capacity and consume more electricity to cool the air in the room.
To overcome this situation, the unit instructed users to use a bucket of water and a long towel.
One end of the towel is dipped in a bucket of water, the rest is covered on the radiator back of the hot thermos. Thanks to the capillary phenomenon, water will continuously penetrate through the towel and cool the hot thermos when evaporating.
Cooling down the hot unit helps the air conditioner operate more stably, increases cooling efficiency and reduces power consumption. However, users should not place buckets of water directly on the hot unit to avoid rust, scratching the device and need to clean up when it rains heavily or there is strong wind to limit unexpected incidents.
Notes to help air conditioners operate effectively on hot sunny days
To verify the effectiveness of the above method in Vietnamese weather conditions, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters had an exchange with Dr. Nguyen Xuan Tien (Vice Chairman, Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Cold and Air Conditioning Science and Technology).
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tien, this is a practically effective method in the current harsh hot weather conditions.
The cooler the heating system, the higher the cold capacity and the more energy-saving it is. This is the right way that many places still apply in hot weather, both helping to cool down the heating system and helping to increase operating capacity," Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tien shared.

On days when the outdoor temperature reaches 40 - 42 degrees Celsius, many air conditioners may reduce their cooling capacity due to heat overload.
Supporting cooling the hot unit with a damp cloth or light water spray will help the air conditioner operate more stably and save more electricity, because when the machine is too hot, it will be difficult to cool it effectively," he said.
In addition, experts also recommend that families should close the doors of their rooms, limit cold air loss and clean the heating system, and filter air periodically to make the air conditioner operate more efficiently in the hot season.
On peak hot days, people should maintain air conditioning temperatures at 25 - 28 degrees Celsius to both ensure cooling and avoid consuming too much electricity.
It is advisable to combine the use of fans with air conditioners to make air circulation better without significantly increasing electricity consumption and helping the human body feel more comfortable," Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tien emphasized.
