Thanks to containing citric acid which has the ability to dissolve dirt, grease and deodorize, lemon is recommended by many experts as a safe and environmentally friendly cleaning solution.
According to household hygiene experts, one of the simplest ways is to use half a lemon to rub directly on a wooden cutting board after preliminary processing meat, fish or onions, garlic. Leave it for about 10-15 minutes and then wash it off with warm water to reduce odor and limit bacteria from sticking to the surface.
For the microwave oven, you can put a few slices of lemon in a bowl of water, place it in the oven and heat it for about 3-5 minutes. Steam combined with essential oil and citric acid will help soften food stains, making cleaning easier without using many chemicals.
Lemon is also effective when cleaning stainless steel faucets, kettles or utensils with mineral debris. Just rub lightly with half a lemon or soak in lemon juice for a short time and then rinse, the surface will be brighter and reduce debris accumulation.
However, experts note that lemon should not be used on natural stone surfaces such as marble or granite that have not been treated for waterproofing, because acidity can wear and tarnish the surface. After cleaning, tools that come into direct contact with food also need to be washed again with clean water and dried before use.
Taking advantage of lemon to clean kitchen utensils not only helps reduce the amount of cleaning chemicals in the family but also contributes to cost savings. However, for stubborn stains or utensils that need to be disinfected according to food safety standards, users should still combine them with specialized cleaning products as recommended by the manufacturer.
