Recently, drummer and singer of the group F.T. Island - Choi Min Hwan had an interview with Dispatch, clarifying the reason for his divorce from his ex-wife - singer Yulhee (former member of the group Laboum).
Last October, nearly a year after her divorce from Choi Min Hwan, Yulhee shocked everyone when she posted a video accusing her ex-husband of frequently harassing her in front of her family and repeatedly buying sex and going to karaoke bars to serve prostitutes, which was the main reason for the rift in their relationship.
Sharing with Dispatch, Choi Min Hwan admitted that part of the reason for the divorce was because he went to a karaoke bar, which caused Yulhee to misunderstand. But he insisted that he did not buy sex.
Min Hwan said the karaoke bar he went to was where Yulhee had her birthday party, not a “brothel”. Yulhee also knew an employee A there. The situation that made Yulhee misunderstand was when the karaoke bar had no more rooms available and he had to ask about other service rooms, but there was absolutely no prostitution.
Notably, Choi Min Hwan told Dispatch that at the time the two were negotiating their divorce (December 2023), his going to the karaoke bar was not even mentioned, because it was not an important reason.
According to Choi Min Hwan, their marriage often had conflicts and disagreements, and eventually ended because of his ex-wife's unacceptable actions.
Choi Min Hwan said Yulhee had a habit of sleeping 18 to 20 hours a day. She often went out all night and came home to sleep in the morning. But when he brought this up, she got angry and left home.
“In the 5 years we lived together, Yulhee ran away from home more than 20 times because of arguments. The shortest ones were 1-2 days, the longest ones were 1 week to 10 days,” Min Hwan confided.
Choi Min Hwan also denied leaving his wife to take care of their three children alone while he served as a full-time reservist (February 2020 - September 2021).
Min Hwan said he hired a nanny from 9am to 4pm. After work, he comes home to take care of the children, and his mother also helps take care of the children. As for Yulhee, she sleeps almost all day.
In December 2023, they finalized a divorce agreement, which included alimony and division of assets. They agreed not to give or receive money from each other. Custody of the children was given to Choi Min Hwan.
But a year later, Yulhee suddenly canceled the agreement. She accused her ex-husband of paying for sex as the reason for the breakdown of their marriage. She filed for custody of her child, asking for 1 billion won in property division and 100 million won in alimony (compensation for physical and mental damage).
Choi Min Hwan (born in 1992) and Yulhee (born in 1997) got married in 2018. Their relationship was noticed because Min Hwan was the youngest member of the group F.T. Island at that time, and Yulhee had to leave the group Laboum due to "getting married because of pregnancy".
Despite the controversy, they were known to have a happy marriage after their marriage. They have 1 son and 2 daughters. In 2021, Min Hwan even had a vasectomy because he was worried about his wife's health.
But after 5 years of living together, they announced their divorce in December 2023.
Yulhee's accusation of Choi Min Hwan's bad character in October 2024 caused his career to go into crisis.
Min Hwan has had to suspend all activities until now, withdrawing from the reality show "The Return of Superman" that he and his children participated in since April 2024.
