According to SCMP, on September 10, a man surnamed Huang won the "shuang se qiu" lottery, also known as the Double Color Ball, after 7 years of buying lottery tickets. The total prize is worth 24 million yuan (about 83 billion VND).
Huang, who currently lives in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, bought lottery tickets worth 10 yuan (about 35,000 VND) with numbers based on the birth dates of family members.
When he arrived at the Anhui Provincial Welfare Lottery Center to receive his prize, Huang calmly said: “I have been buying lottery tickets for more than 10 years, never spending more than 20 yuan (about 70,000 VND) for a single draw.
I try to buy reasonable amounts and never expect to actually win the jackpot. My usual mindset is to support charity with my lottery purchases, winning is just a bonus.”
After receiving the award, Huang donated 100,000 yuan (about 350 million VND) to the Anhui Provincial Charity Federation.
Mr. Huang added that when he first started, he liked to use random numbers. Until one day, he read a story about a lottery winner who used a combination of family members' birth dates.
Inspired by that, Mr. Huang started buying lottery tickets based on the birth dates of his family members since 2017. After 7 years, luck really smiled on him.
With this money, Huang will improve his family's living conditions. He plans to buy a better house to move into.
Double Color Ball, launched in 2003, is one of the most popular lottery games in China. As of mid-July, the company had achieved cumulative annual sales of 30 billion yuan (about 105 trillion VND) this year.
Last July, a Chinese man surnamed Yang won 10 million yuan (about 35 billion VND) after buying a lottery ticket worth 4 yuan (about 14,000 VND).
In October of the same year, a man surnamed Wang in Zhejiang province (China) won 74 million yuan (about 259 billion VND) after buying lottery tickets based on the birth dates of his wife and daughter.
