According to Koreaboo, singer and actress IU recently shared a surprising behind-the-scenes story from the filming of the drama When life gives you tangerines currently airing on Netflix.
In a new video released on Netflix's official YouTube channel, IU and her co-stars Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon reviewed the outstanding scenes in the episodes that have aired.
While recalling some scenes, IU shared surprising information. According to the actress, in a scene where she played Geum Myeong and talked with her father (Park Hae Joon plays the middle-aged Gwan Sik) at a restaurant, IU drank real wine in this scene.
IU explained that she wanted the character Geum Myeong to have a natural appearance, but using makeup to create a pink face effect could make her face look fake or too cute. Therefore, IU chooses to drink real alcohol.

Park Hae Joon also shared his own difficulties with this scene. The actor expressed that it is difficult to estimate the exact time for everything. Since that moment was related to eating, he had to carefully combine his movements, from removing the squid, playing noodles and keeping the conversation flowing.
Park Hee Joon joked that he had to hesitate whether he should eat or not, which made the filming even more difficult.
In addition, IU revealed that it took her nearly 2 months to record vocals for the character Geum Myeong. The actress worked hard to find the right voice for this character.
IU wants the character to have a voice that is still similar to her, but can also naturally switch to an older version played by an older actor.

In the film, IU takes on 2 roles: Ae Sun and Ae Sun's daughter - Geum Myeong. The audience positively reviewed IU's acting and voiceover, commenting that she brought 2 different characters, without repeating each other's images.
The film When Life Is for You starring IU and Park Bo Gum, with an investment of 60 billion won, was filmed in 2023 and took 2 years to complete.
After only 3 days of release, the film entered the top 4 of Netflix's most watched non-English TV shows worldwide, with 3.6 million views.
The film has currently aired 8/16 episodes, ranking No. 1 on the Netflix Vietnam platform.
