On October 11, Jennie (Blackpink) officially released her first solo music product after establishing her own company ODD ATELIER, the single "Mantra".
Music critic magazine NME gave "Mantra" 4/5 points and commented that this is a song that "makes you dance and remember that Jennie is really back".
NME added that while the single isn't quite as consistent in quality as its best parts, it could be Jennie's trick up her sleeve, signaling exciting things to come, a new era for Jennie as a solo artist.
The music video for “Mantra” recorded 14.4 million views on YouTube in its first 24 hours, becoming the third-biggest debut by a female K-pop solo artist on the platform in 2024, behind only Lisa’s “Rockstar” and “New Woman” music videos.
However, Jennie has achieved outstanding results on the global iTunes chart. To date, "Mantra" is in the Top 2 of the global iTunes chart and has climbed to the No. 1 position on the iTunes charts of 47 countries.
In particular, Jennie set a record as the first female Kpop solo artist to reach No. 1 on US iTunes in 2024, surpassing Lisa, who previously had "New Woman" at No. 2.
In the Korean market, Jennie's achievements also rose rapidly. As of 9am on October 12 (Korean time), the song "Mantra" entered the Top 9 of the Melon chart, Top 2 of Bugs, Top 5 of Genie and Top 37 of Flo.
During the livestream that took place on the evening of October 11, when a fan expressed regret that there was no rap part in "Mantra", Jennie said that this was just the opening product, she will release many songs with other genres in the near future.
Previously, Jennie talked about plans to release a new album this year.
