Big Bang leader G-Dragon once surprised the public when he did not extend his contract with YG Entertainment - a company that has been with him for most of his career - but switched to signing with Galaxy Corporation. According to Koreaboo, the "opportunity" was once in YG's hands, but this company let it slip at a sensitive time.
Koreboo quoted a Sports Seoul report as saying that in the period when YG is simultaneously handling renewal negotiations with Blackpink members, the company is also negotiating with G-Dragon about future cooperation. Notably, this newspaper affirmed that the two sides have reached a "very close to finalizing a deal" with a preliminary contract that has been drafted, and basically G-Dragon is only in the process of signing.
However, the incident occurred when G-Dragon was involved in an investigation related to suspicion of using banned substances, stemming from the accusation of another figure in the entertainment industry. When the information spread, YG Entertainment gave a response in the direction of keeping a distance, arguing that they "could not publicly respond" because the artist at that time "no longer signed a contract with the company".
According to a person in the industry, YG standing up to protect G-Dragon in a sensitive context is unlikely to happen. The reason is that Yang Hyun Suk - the founder of the company, was also facing legal issues at that time, making YG even more cautious in public statements. However, the lack of a defense action at a time when G-Dragon is under public pressure inadvertently creates a gap.
Sports Seoul described Galaxy Corporation as having appeared at the right time. CEO Choi Yong Ho (believed to be G-Dragon's best friend) supported the male artist with legal advice and companionship during the difficult period. When G-Dragon received this support, rumors about his possibility of signing with Galaxy Corporation began to spread.
After that, Korean and international media simultaneously reported that G-Dragon officially signed an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corporation and is expected to return to operations in 2024.
Meanwhile, Sports Seoul believes that G-Dragon has considered prolonging, not making a final decision immediately, partly because of his personal relationship with Galaxy, partly because of his dissatisfaction with YG's reaction at the time he was being investigated.
Until after G-Dragon's allegations were clarified, a Sports Seoul article at that time about the possibility of him "being able to return to YG" was said to have unintentionally become a boost, causing G-Dragon to finalize the option of signing a contract with Galaxy Corporation.
