SBS has signed a partnership agreement with Netflix to air Korean dramas and TV shows on the platform from 2025.

According to media, SBS - one of the three largest television stations in Korea - recently signed a strategic business partnership agreement with online platform Netflix, aiming to further expand K-content (Korean content) globally.

According to SBS, the new partnership will be a “win-win” strategic approach for both companies.

“SBS will be able to expand its content globally, while Netflix will be able to fulfill the value of its subscription packages and provide a richer experience for its subscribers,” SBS said in a press release.

Following the partnership, SBS's latest content including existing dramas, variety shows, and news programs will be available to Netflix subscribers in Korea.

Popular variety and news shows such as "Running Man", "Unanswered Questions", "Kick a Goal" and many Korean dramas from SBS will be available starting next year.

The two companies also plan to simultaneously release a number of new TV series from the network around the world in the second half of 2025. Netflix will provide subtitles and dubbing in various languages, as well as promote local content.

"The collaboration between SBS and Netflix marks a new milestone in bringing the best Korean stories to the world.

We hope that SBS's creative vision and passion for Korea will create a new golden age for Korean content, lasting for the next 100 years and beyond," said Netflix's Vice President of Korean Content Kang Dong Han.

SBS CEO Bang Moon Shin also affirmed, "The partnership with Netflix will allow viewers around the world to access more Korean content and contribute further to the globalization of Korean content."

This information makes the Korean drama fan community excited.

In the top 10 highest-rated Korean dramas of 2024, there are 4 SBS dramas including “Good Partner”, “Connection”, “The Fiery Priest 2”, “The Judge from Hell”, but none of them were released on Netflix globally, instead they were released on Disney+ and other platforms.

Currently, Netflix is the world's largest streaming service, so Korean movies released on this platform will have a higher chance of reaching a global audience.
