Vietnamese box office to flourish in early 2025

ĐÔNG DU |

On the first day of 2025, Vietnamese box office revenue improved, with many films earning several billion VND in revenue on January 1 alone.

According to statistics from the independent box office observation platform Box Office Vietnam, total theater revenue in early 2025 reached about 25 billion VND (on January 1 alone).

In particular, the current leading box office revenue in Vietnam is the movie "404 Run Now" - a Thai movie with 6.1 billion VND. This number is more than double the revenue on December 31, 2024.

The Vietnamese film "Sister-in-law" continues to maintain its good form, bringing in nearly 5 billion VND in revenue on January 1. The film was released about half a month ago but still sold tickets quite well.

According to many experts' predictions, the movie "Sister-in-law" could be the first Vietnamese movie of 2025 to reach the 100 billion VND mark - opening up a more exciting Vietnamese film market this year.

Current foreign blockbusters such as "The Lion King", "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", and "Howl's Moving Castle" also achieved equally good revenue.

Accordingly, these blockbusters are earning revenue from over 1 billion VND to about 3 billion VND on January 1 alone.

Compared to the last week of 2024, Vietnamese box office revenue is expected to improve on the first day of the new year 2025.

However, it is quite unfortunate that at the beginning of the year there are not many blockbusters and new Vietnamese films released in theaters.

The only Vietnamese film released this time is "Rain on the Butterfly Wings" which does not have the advantage of showing times. The film was only scheduled to be shown 67 times on January 1st, so its revenue was not really good. Currently, the film only brought in over 21 million VND on January 1st.

The Thai movie released on January 1, "Young and Untamed", has not yet broken through the box office. Currently, the project has only brought in over 164 million VND.
