On the evening of May 12, rookie girl group MEOVV of The Black Label released a mini album "My Eyes Open Vvide" and a MV for the title track "Drop Top". This is MEOVV's first physical album since its release in September 2024.
At the press conference held on May 12, MEOVV expressed high hope and goals for this album.
"With this album, we are moving towards a deeper and wider musical world, and we are ready to show you the entire unique universe of MEOVV. Follow MEOVV as we reach new heights, Sooin member shared.
MEOVV is a 5-member girl group (Ella, Narin, Anna, Gawon, Sooin) formed in September last year under the management of The Black Label, founded by Teddy - the famous music producer behind many successful songs of Big Bang, 2NE1 and Blackpink.
Member Narin shared about the group's desire for change after nearly 1 year of activities: "When we first debuted, our image was associated with the image of luxurious and distant black cats. But through this album, we have tried to express more charm, like colorful cats with many different personalities".
mini album "My Eyes Open Vvide" has a total of 6 songs, including 4 previously released singles "Meow", "Toxic", "Body", "Hands Up" and 2 new songs "Drop Top", "Lit Right Now".
The title track "Drop Top" expresses the idea of approaching the world through a person's unique perspective. This is a pop song mixed with rock elements, with a structure starting with a gentle melody before exploding into a powerful rhythm.
Member Gawon, who wrote the lyrics for the title track, shared, "This is the first song we recorded with our own music during our trainee days.
It can be said that this is the song that has been with MEOVV for the longest time. The lyrics express the meaning that this moment, right now, is the hottest and most precious moment, so enjoy this moment as it is."
Member Anna recalled filming the MV for Drop Top as a free and enjoyable experience: There were not many set-pieces, so we could film the MV freely and naturally, recording what was most comfortable and realistic about us.
Sooin, Gawon and Ella even had scenes where they seemed to fly in the sky, while I cheered them on below.
When asked about the aspect that the group has developed the most since their debut, Narin pointed out that it is the performances on music shows and interacting with fans.
"At first, we were shy when we were around fans in music shows and also felt very shy on stage. But after chatting more with the fans, we gradually felt more comfortable and we thought that this time we could communicate better," Narin said.
When asked what achievements MEOVV hopes to achieve with their debut album, Narin emphasized that they want to become versatile artists.
"We want to be known as multi-purpose cats, combining MEOVVs endless charm in their singing, performance and image of the cat - the symbol of our group, Narin shared.
