On February 20, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City sent a report to the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the operation of Saigon Pearl International School after the school announced its closure at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
In particular, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that it has directed schools from now until the end of the school year to organize teaching and learning normally, ensuring quality maintenance, promptly implementing solutions to ensure learning rights for students, not allowing students' studies to be interrupted.
Organize parent-teacher meetings to exchange support, create favorable conditions for parents to complete the transfer documents according to regulations, avoid causing disruption and affecting security and order in the area.
The school needs to ensure that policies for teachers, staff, and workers (including Vietnamese and foreigners) are fully implemented according to current regulations.
At the same time, the department has also directed public educational institutions and investors and foreign-invested schools to receive students transferred from Saigon Pearl International School according to their needs, creating conditions for students to quickly integrate and stabilize their studies.
According to the Department of Education and Training, Saigon Pearl International School currently has 227 students. Of which, there were 52 foreign students and 175 Vietnamese students. The number of teachers at the school is 33, mostly foreigners. The school has 57 Vietnamese employees.
Previously, on February 15, Saigon Pearl International School sent a notice to parents that the school will only maintain operations until the end of this school year on June 19 and the school's last working day will be July 19, 2025.
Regarding the reason for the suspension, Saigon Pearl International School said that it is facing a challenging context when the number of enrollments is decreasing, causing pressure, negatively affecting the future of the school and its ability to develop sustainably.
When announcing the suspension of operations, the school proposed to support all students to transfer to Ho Chi Minh City International School (ISHCMC) if parents agree, with a tuition fee equivalent to two years.
