On August 9, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen signed and issued a plan to arrange public preschool, general education, vocational education - continuing education centers in the area.
According to the plan, the whole city has 1,156 public preschool, general education, vocational education - continuing education centers. After arrangement, the expected number will be reduced to 406 educational institutions.
Specifically, arranging general education institutions, specialized education institutions, and public vocational education - continuing education centers directly under the Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) from 108 institutions to 99 institutions, reducing 9 institutions.
Meanwhile, arranging educational institutions directly under the People's Committees of communes and wards from 1048 institutions to 307 institutions, reducing 741 institutions. The arrangement ensures that each commune-level administrative unit has one kindergarten, one primary school and one secondary school or one educational institution with multiple levels of education (primary and secondary school).
Regarding the personnel arrangement plan, for educational institution management officials, after arrangement, the whole city will arrange 406 principals (a reduction of 750 people) and 1,240 vice principals (a reduction of 330 people).
The remaining management officials will be arranged and assigned to other jobs (transferred to commune-level education officials, changing job positions from management public employees to teachers or educational support staff suitable to their capacity, aspirations and job requirements or resolving retirement benefits according to the provisions of law).
For teachers, the existing teaching staff of schools merged into newly established schools after the merger will be received in the original state. Teachers are basically kept stable, arranged according to regulations on job positions for subjects and educational activities of the scale of classes in units before arrangement; teachers who do not teach enough prescribed hours are arranged to teach at the main school, branches and school sites.
In addition, the plan also specifies the arrangement for education support personnel.
The arrangement of the structure, number of principals, directors, vice principals, deputy directors, and educational support personnel when implementing the arrangement of educational institutions must be completed before September 30, 2026.
Based on the plan of the City People's Committee, the City Department of Education and Training will develop a Project, advise the City People's Committee to issue a decision to arrange public educational institutions directly under it and organize implementation in accordance with regulations; complete before August 20, 2026; ensure that educational institutions after arrangement officially go into operation from September 1, 2026.
