The standard score for pedagogical majors is sky-high
Nearly 17,500 candidates have registered to take the entrance exam to Hanoi National University of Education - an increase of nearly 6,000 candidates compared to 2024. The number of candidates is increasing and spreading to many localities across the country, so the school has expanded the organization of the exam, arranging 4 exam locations in Hanoi and exam locations in Nghe An, Da Nang, Binh Dinh. The results of this exam will be used by 26 schools as a basis for admission this year.
As for Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, it is estimated that the total of the 3 assessment exams will have a scale of more than 19,000 candidates; while in 2024, this number will be 8,500.
In addition to the two familiar pedagogical competency assessment exams mentioned above, this year, Hanoi National University of Education will organize a separate exam for the first time for admission.
The attraction of the pedagogical sector is not only demonstrated in the increased scale and scope of exams, but also in the benchmark scores over the years.
In the group of teacher training majors, the Fine Arts Pedagogy major has the lowest input but also reached 22.69 points.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education also has three teacher training majors with admission scores above 28 points (Literature Pedagogy and History Pedagogy with 28.6 points, Geography Pedagogy with 28.37 points).
Similarly, the University of Education, Hanoi National University, University of Education, University of Da Nang, University of Education 2, Hong Duc University... have many pedagogical majors with a benchmark score of over 28 points.
Predicting that the quality of pedagogical admissions in 2025 will be better
Tran Anh Thu - a 12th grade student at Yen Lap High School (Phu Tho) - shared that he set his first wish to become a Literature Pedagogy major because this is his passion and also the orientation of his family. Mr. Thu was oriented early, if he studied pedagogical subjects, his work would be stable, and he would receive tuition support from the State and monthly living expenses. However, Anh Thu also determined that in the context of fierce competition for admission as at present, admission based on high school graduation exam scores will be extremely difficult.
"There are many students registering for the pedagogical major. Within the scope of my class, more than half of my students apply to this major" - she said.
In fact, pedagogical students are not only supported with tuition and living expenses. After graduating, they return to work at educational institutions, they also enjoy benefits, incentives, and separate policies... This is clearly stipulated in the Law on Teachers recently passed by the 15th National Assembly at the 9th session.
The Law on Teachers officially takes effect from January 1, 2026 - this is an important basis for many experts to predict that the attraction of the pedagogical sector will continue to increase in the coming years.
When discussing the picture of university admissions in 2025, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Principal of Hanoi National University of Education acknowledged that the Law on Teachers has been passed and officially taken effect, creating motivation for many students. Therefore, he hopes that the quality of admission to the pedagogical major this year will be better.
"Up to this point, the number of students who have won the National Excellent Student Award from the Third Prize or higher, submitted their applications to the school and are eligible to be admitted to Hanoi National University of Education is more than 500 (the number last year was about 300 and direct admission was about 100). Thus, the attraction of Pedagogy this year can be very large" - Mr. Son analyzed.
However, the Principal of Hanoi National University of Education said that candidates still have many opportunities to be admitted to the school because in addition to direct admission, the school reserves quotas for many other admission methods, including considering high school graduation exam scores.
"Even with many separate admission methods, the rate for students considering high school graduation exam scores is always about 60%" - Mr. Son said.
