The latest storm news from Xinhua News Agency said that Typhoon Wipha made its first landfall at around 5:50 p.m. on July 20 in Hai Yen town, Giang Mon city, Quang Dong province, with the strongest wind near the storm's center reaching 119 km/h.
At about 20:15 on the evening of July 20, Typhoon Wipha made a second landfall near Hai Linh Island in Duong Giang, Quang Dong Province at the level of a strong tropical storm, with maximum winds near the center of the storm up to 90 km/h.
At 8:00 a.m. on July 21, Fujian Province, eastern China, activated a level 4 flood prevention emergency response to respond to the latest typhoon in the East Sea.
Due to the impact of the circulation of Typhoon Wipha, coastal areas of Fujian have been hit by heavy rain since July 20. According to the latest storm bulletin of the Phuc Kien Meteorological Agency, many areas in the province are forecast to have heavy rain in the next 3 days.
The latest storm information on July 21 from the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) emphasizes that Typhoon Wipha is 367 km east of Hanoi. The storm has been moving west at a speed of 24 km/h over the past 6 hours, causing waves up to 5.5 m high.
JTWC forecasters pointed out that although it will continue to weaken, the storm will move westward rather than southwestward as initially forecast. The storm has now moved about 56 km north of its previously forecast track. This makes the third storm in the East Sea have less time to move in the Gulf of Tonkin before making landfall in Vietnam.
JTWC forecasts that Typhoon Wipha will make landfall in Vietnam in the next 24 hours, with some making landfall in the vicinity of Hai Phong or islands off the coast of Hai Phong, such as Cat Ba Island.
JTWC forecasters said that Typhoon Wipha will strengthen about 20 km/h before making landfall in Vietnam, reaching its peak of at least 100 km/h right before making landfall.
After making landfall in Vietnam, Typhoon Wipha is forecast to continue moving westward, affecting the weather in the northern part of Laos.
