Accordingly, after agreeing on the policy, the Ministry of Education and Training will submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and a decision to convert the operating model of Can Tho University into Can Tho University.

Regarding the organizational structure, Can Tho University has 6 member schools, including: School of Technology, School of Information and Communications Technology, School of Economics, School of Agriculture, School of Education, School of Fisheries. The school also has 10 faculties, 3 research institutes and 1 Pedagogical practice High School.
The school has also established two university branches in Soc Trang and Hau Giang.
In the 2025 school year, Can Tho University plans to enroll 10,060 students, with a total of 109 full-time university training programs. Including 89 general programs, 2 advanced programs and 13 high-quality programs.
There will be 8 new majors: Information systems (high-quality program), Preschool education, Natural science education, Automotive Engineering, Computer engineering (Semi-conductor microchip design), Medical Biotechnology, Journalism, Tourism. For postgraduate training, the school is training master's and doctoral degrees, with a target for the 2025-2026 school year of over 1,500 targets.
