As one of two localities with the largest and most severe public 10th grade entrance exam in the country, Ho Chi Minh City has announced English as the third subject. Many students, parents, and teachers expressed their joy and support for this choice because for many years, Ho Chi Minh City has organized exams in 3 subjects: Math, Literature, and English. This will help students stabilize their psychology and focus on reviewing during the final period.
On the contrary, Hanoi has not yet announced the third subject. A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) informed that it is expected that the Department will announce this exam subject at the end of March.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also recommends that schools and students proactively focus on reviewing knowledge exams for subjects according to the format and sample questions for subjects: Math; Literature, English, History and Geography, Natural Sciences, Information Technology, and Civic Education announced by the Department at the end of 2024. This is the basis for building a bank of questions and issuing 10th grade exam questions according to the new general education program.

According to the admission regulations announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, localities can choose the form of admission, entrance exam or a combination of both for the public 10th grade entrance exam. If the entrance exam, the exam consists of 3 subjects: Math, Literature is the compulsory subject and the third subject (or combined exam). The third exam subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but cannot be chosen for one subject for more than three consecutive years.
