Unify shared textbooks: Writ a new book or combine 3 sets of textbooks?
The Politburo issued Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW requiring the unification of a set of textbooks (SGK) shared nationwide. Lao Dong Newspaper had an interview with Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh - Former Director of the Department of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education and Training on this policy.
Dr. Hoang Ngoc Vinh believes that there are 3 options: Completely renew, choose a relatively good set to edit, or combine good parts from many other sets. In which, he assessed the most feasible option 2 because it saves resources, keeps the circuit unified and meets urgent requirements.
To implement, three key groups of work are needed: Review the 2018 General Education Program, select a framework and edit it with a clear copyright mechanism, and at the same time, test, train and prepare accompanying learning materials.
The Ministry of Education and Training plays the role of "conductor", together with the independent expert council, Publishing House, authors, teachers and schools to coordinate in reviewing and implementing. The State also needs to buy copyrights, issue textbook standards and transparent regulations to ensure the rights of authors. See more...
Abolishing tuition and extra classes is good news for many families
Parents propose to arrange the school schedule on Saturday to be flexible for each level of education
The Ministry of Education and Training has issued Official Letter 4567/BGDDT-GDPT guiding the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day at the high school level. Accordingly, qualified secondary and high schools will implement according to the roadmap, ensuring a minimum of 5 days/week, a maximum of 11 sessions/week, no more than 7 periods per day (45 minutes/session). This regulation ends the situation of concentrating 8-9 periods/day for a full weekend, many schools have adjusted to Saturday morning classes.

Students and parents have different views on this change. Some students, such as Dao Nhat Long (grade 11 student at Co Loa High School (Hanoi), think that Saturday study is reasonable because it helps reduce the burden of each session, has more time to discuss, practice, and prepare for the final exam. Parents like Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga also agree, but the proposal is divided reasonably: high school students can study on Saturday mornings, while middle school students should have a full weekend off for comprehensive development.
On the contrary, some parents, such as Ms. Tran Thi Minh An (with a child in grade 7), do not support regular classes on Saturdays because they think that secondary school students need more time to rest, play and family activities. She recommended that schools arrange a reasonable school schedule during the week, ending the school day before 4:30 p.m. so that students can balance between studying and resting. See more...
After 4pm, parents in Ho Chi Minh City stop running around to pick up their children
From the 2025 - 2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City stipulates that primary, secondary and high school students will start their classes from 7-8am, end their morning after 10:30am onwards; school afternoon from 1pm to 1pm and school dismissal around 4-5pm. For preschools, the school welcomes children from 7-8am and returns them after 4pm.

Many parents expressed their agreement because the new time frame is suitable for working time, helping them feel secure at work, avoiding the situation of having to leave work early to pick up their children like before. The representative of the Department of Education and Training also said that even education officials have encountered difficulties when their children dropped out of school too early.
However, there are concerns that traffic congestion still exists due to the peak school dismissal time. To reduce pressure, the Department requires schools to open from 6:30 a.m., nearby facilities must arrange a minimum 15 minute break of school closing time, and the People's Committees of wards and communes closely monitor.
