Practical policies
According to the People's Committee of Can Tho City, in the 2025-2026 school year, the whole city has 381 kindergartens, including: 329 public schools and 52 non-public schools (51 private schools, 1 public school).
Can Tho has 3 inter-level schools with preschool children, including 1 public school (My Xuyen Ward Pedagogical Practice School) and 2 private schools. Currently, there is a shortage of 1,032 teachers to ensure the maximum number of teachers/groups, classes according to Circular No. 19/2023/TT-BGDDT of the Minister of Education and Training, a shortage of 608 teachers in the payroll due to not being recruited in time.
In order to remove difficulties and add motivation to the teaching staff, at the fourth session (specialized session) on the afternoon of July 30, the Can Tho City People's Council passed a Resolution stipulating policies to support teachers and staff at public preschool education institutions in Can Tho City.
The subjects of application are teachers and staff (including teachers and staff working under labor contracts according to legal regulations) at public preschool education institutions, teachers and staff of preschool levels at the Pedagogical Practice School in Can Tho City.
Can Tho decided to support 960,000 VND/person/month (maximum 9 months/school year), with a total estimated budget of about 27.4 billion VND from the city budget.
Receiving information about the new support level, Ms. Cao My Tien (preschool teacher in Thoi Lai, Can Tho City) could not hide her joy. She believes that what is important is not the number but the timely recognition and sympathy of the government for the hardships and hardships of the profession.
This support not only helps us cover some of the daily living expenses but is also a great source of spiritual encouragement, adding strength for me and the teachers to be determined to stick with the profession" - Ms. Tien said.

Invisible burdens
For preschool teachers, a working day usually starts at 6:30 am with cleaning work, preparing classrooms to welcome children, being on duty for children to take a nap and lasting until the last parent picks up their children. Not only in the care and teaching classes, in addition to working hours, teachers also have to prepare records and school movement activities.
Ms. Luu Thi Cam (preschool teacher in Ninh Kieu ward, Can Tho city) - shared that the biggest sadness is spending all the time taking care of and teaching children of parents but not being able to take care of their own children carefully. Everything from picking up children, teaching children to study... must be taken care of by her husband and grandparents.
Thus, when receiving support, Ms. Cam's child's school spending will be less difficult; in addition, it is also possible to have the child participate in communication and language skills classes for comprehensive development.
Besides the constrained working hours, the work pressure of preschool teachers also comes from many sides. Usually, at the beginning of the school year, young children are not familiar with the class, so they cry a lot and are unfamiliar, some hyperactive children require a lot of guidance effort. Along with that are too high expectations from parents, sometimes far exceeding the actual capacity of children and teachers.
Faced with public opinion about child abuse, some teachers inadvertently have to bear an additional psychological burden. Support is a motivation for teachers to work hard, thereby creating absolute trust and peace of mind for parents" - teacher Tien added.
