The information was announced by Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu - Director of the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City - at the Conference on summarizing the 2024-2025 school year and deploying general education tasks for the 2025-2026 school year.
According to Mr. Hieu, in the past school year, many schools have implemented regulations to limit the use of mobile phones in schools, but the implementation is not synchronous and has not received absolute support from parents.
Mr. Hieu suggested that the Student Affairs Department soon organize a scientific workshop, collect opinions from experts and parents to analyze the benefits of not using phones in school.
"If students need to contact their families, the school must ensure a free phone number for support. During class, students are only allowed to use phones as a learning tool when teachers allow them, according to regulations," said Mr. Hieu.
According to the Director of the Department, Ho Chi Minh City is implementing the Happy School model until the third year. A happy school cannot let students focus on their phones when they are out, dragging themselves into their "own world", lacking in connection with friends and teachers.
"Now that we are playing, we need to have fun, exercise, and create positive energy to prepare for the new lesson. If the habit of using phones is dominated, the relationship between students and friends, teachers, and even their families will be seriously affected," Mr. Hieu emphasized.
He also believes that a happy school is not only a story about facilities, but more importantly, it is to build a friendly relationship environment, where teachers can create trust, listen and share with students. Only then can schools truly become an ideal space for children to study and grow up.
