Accordingly, the 3rd exam subject in the 10th grade public high school entrance exam in Hanoi this year is foreign languages.
Candidates register to take the exam in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean (candidates are allowed to register to take a foreign language other than the foreign language they are studying at the lower secondary school).
The Foreign Language exam is in the form of objective multiple-choice, the exam time is 60 minutes; there are many exam codes in one exam room, ensuring the principle: 2 adjacent candidates do not match the exam code; candidates take the exam on the Multiple-choice Answer Sheet; the results of the candidate's exam on the Multiple-choice Answer Sheet are graded using computer software.
The exam consists of questions suitable for the required outcomes of the subject and the objectives of lower secondary school under the 2018 General Education Program, mainly within the 9th grade program of lower secondary school.
The entrance exam to 10th grade public high schools is always a highly competitive exam, attracting special attention from parents, students and society.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi organizes exams in three subjects including Mathematics, Literature and Foreign Language, with the participation of more than 102,000 candidates.

Currently, nearly 1/3 of provinces and cities nationwide have announced the third exam subject for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year. Most localities continue to choose foreign languages as the third exam subject.
According to the enrollment regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the entrance exam to the 10th grade of public high schools includes three subjects: Mathematics, Literature and the third subject or combined exam. The selection of the third subject is decided by the local departments of education and training, ensuring that it is not repeated for three consecutive years.
The regulations also clearly stipulate that the third exam subject must be announced after the end of the first semester and no later than March 31 every year.
