Maintain 56 establishments directly under the Department
On August 19, informing PV, Son La Provincial People's Committee said that the province has issued a plan to arrange preschool, general, and continuing education institutions in the area.
According to the plan, the whole province currently has 592 public educational institutions. After arrangement, Son La will have 406 institutions, a decrease of 186 focal points, equivalent to 31%.
Specifically, the number of kindergartens decreased from 215 to 124; primary schools from 95 to 61; secondary schools from 79 to 59; primary and secondary schools from 147 to 106.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong - Head of the Department of Organization, Personnel and Political and Ideological Affairs, Department of Education and Training of Son La province - said that the above data includes boarding schools in border areas, ethnic minority areas and difficult areas.
The province's plan has been completed. Currently, communes and wards are arranging and rearranging management staff, transferring teachers to put schools into stable operation before the opening ceremony. Currently, 100% of schools have arranged to ensure the apparatus," Mr. Cuong said.
According to the plan, Son La maintains 56 facilities directly under the Department of Education and Training, including one secondary and high school, 12 ethnic minority boarding schools, 30 high schools, 12 continuing education centers and one center to support integrated education development.

High schools that have not been merged to continue investing in facilities and expanding enrollment scale. Currently, the rate of people of school age completing the high school program and equivalent in Son La is only 55.8%, while the target is at least 85%.
Continuing education centers are also kept unchanged due to expected increased learning needs. In addition, the distance between many centers is 40km or more, if merged, it may cause difficulties for learners.
In To Hieu ward, 12 kindergartens and general schools were rearranged to 7 schools, reducing 5 focal points and 10 management staff. Chieng Coi ward reduced from 7 to 3 schools, thereby streamlining 8 management staff.
However, the province requires not to mechanically merge schools. Areas with long distances and difficult traffic can maintain the existing network.
For example, Long Sap commune maintains the original schools because the Chieng Khua area is about 45km from the commune center.
Surplus management officials are rearranged
After the arrangement, Son La is expected to reduce 441 management officials, including 186 principals and 255 vice principals. In addition, 27 administrative staff, including 9 clerical staff and 18 accountants, will be rearranged.
According to Mr. Vu Quoc Cuong, redundant management officials will be arranged according to regulations, in accordance with professional qualifications and actual needs.

Surplus principals can be arranged to be deputy principals at the main school or branch. Surplus deputy principals can be transferred to become heads of professional groups, deputy heads of professional groups, teachers or hold other suitable positions.
The province prioritizes arranging and transferring to a suitable position; if necessary, they can transfer to another unit, become commune-level civil servants or resolve regimes if they meet the conditions.
Son La Provincial People's Committee requests that the arrangement process must take learners as the center, not creating geographical and cost barriers; absolutely do not let students in difficult circumstances have to drop out of school.
Localities must ensure the handover of personnel, finance, assets, records and seals, and not let teaching activities be interrupted in the 2026-2027 school year.
