The Ministry of Education and Training has just announced a draft Circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulations on university and college admissions for Preschool Education.
In particular, the Ministry plans to set early admission quotas according to training institutions' regulations, but not exceeding 20% of the quotas of each training industry and group of industries.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, early admission is used to differentiate in terms of time from the admission round according to the general plan of the Ministry of Education and Training. Meanwhile, admission methods are used in any admission round. Schools can use admission methods in any admission round.
Tran Thao Nguyen, a 12th grade student at Tran Phu High School for the Gifted (Hai Phong), feels more secure after carefully researching information about early admission.
The female student plans to use IELTS and academic transcripts in addition to her high school graduation exam scores to apply to the Diplomatic Academy.
"Using many different methods will help you increase your chances of getting into highly competitive majors," Thao Nguyen said.
There are also plans to recruit using many methods such as Thao Nguyen, Bui Anh Tuan, a 12th grade student at Hong Thai High School (Hanoi) who is simultaneously studying for the IELTS certificate, the competency assessment test and the high school graduation exam.
The male student said: “I want to take the entrance exam to Hanoi National University of Education. Applying for admission through many methods at the same time helps me increase my chances of getting into the school, but sometimes it also makes me overloaded and stressed when having to review a large amount of knowledge.”
Tuan registered to study IELTS at the center with 2 sessions per week. In addition to school hours, he attended Math and Literature classes outside to be able to do well on the Hanoi National University of Education's competency assessment test as well as the high school graduation exam.
“I spend most of my time studying during the week, and only occasionally do I have time for myself on the weekends. I feel a lot of pressure studying for all three exams at the same time. Right now, I have to rush to complete my IELTS certificate to focus on the competency assessment exam and high school graduation next term,” the male student shared.
Sharing the same pressure as Anh Tuan, Dao Phuong Uyen, a 12th grade student at Ngo Quyen High School (Hai Phong) said: “With the desire to be admitted to the National Economics University, I am required to apply for admission by combining IELTS and the ability assessment test. This is one of the three admission groups announced by the school.”
In addition, the female student still maintains her knowledge in class to register for some other schools using her high school graduation exam score.
Phuong Uyen shared: “The difficulty in reviewing many methods at the same time comes not only from time but also from the fact that each exam has a different structure and content.
For example, the high school graduation exam in Literature and the Language - Literature section in the competency assessment test are not in the same scope. Therefore, I have to review both sets of questions in parallel even though they are both about Mathematics and Literature.
According to Phuong Uyen, in order to complete many exams well, each candidate needs to arrange the review time for each method appropriately. In addition, it is necessary to carefully study the exam structures and have strategies for each type.
“Although each test has different content, there is still some common background knowledge. I often link that knowledge to make the most of my review time,” the female student added.
