To increase the chance of being admitted to the Law major, Dang Ngoc Minh Chau - a 12th grade student at Viet Duc High School (Hanoi) - has diligently reviewed and held a IELTS certificate of 7.0 along with SAT 1300.
With this score, female students have many advantages when applying to universities. However, I am still quite worried when this year's exam has a new score. Notably, the regulation that universities must convert the equivalent of the admission benchmark scores between admission methods and combinations to a common scale is prominent.
"At the same time, I considered many methods, each method has its own way of converting points and each school has a different way of calculating. I think I will be confused and have difficulty summarizing my wishes like every year" - Minh Chau confided.
Currently, the two targeting female students are Hanoi Law University and University of Law (Hanoi National University). Both schools have not announced a score conversion formula. This made me feel even more confused about my score.
I am not sure if my current score has helped me pass the major I want. To be safe, I am still reviewing the upcoming May competency assessment exam and the high school graduation exam - Minh Chau shared.
Sharing the same concern about the score after conversion, Phan Nhat Tan - a 12th grade student at Vo Nguyen Giap High School for the Gifted (Quang Binh) - said: "I am quite hesitant in choosing the school and major to study because the 90/150 ability assessment score is not too high".
After the Academy of Finance announced the suspension of the competency assessment, Nhat Tan changed direction and set his wish to go to the University of Commerce. However, with the school's conversion formula, I still don't know what grade I'm at.
According to the 2025 enrollment plan of the University of Commerce, the ability assessment and thinking assessment test scores will be reduced to a 30-level scale and in the conversion formula there is a coefficient reflecting the difference in the difficulty of the exam/d process of differentiating candidates' qualifications. However, this coefficient has not been published.
"The conversion coefficient will be announced by the school after the results of the high school graduation exam. Therefore, you and your friends cannot know what score you are at and can be assured of this admission method" - Nhat Tan confided.
According to the male student, in previous years, students could compare their ability assessment scores with the previous benchmark to know their admission potential. This year, candidates will not be able to hold on and from there, it will be difficult to come up with a review strategy in the final months.
Regarding the conversion of admission scores, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Head of the Communications and Admissions Department, University of Commerce said that the school will announce the coefficient Ka, Kb (coefficient reflecting the difference in difficulty of the exam/differentiating the candidate's qualifications) after having high school graduation exam scores.
The school based on the benchmark scores of the last 3 years, compared them with the learning results of candidates admitted using these methods and found similarities. This is the data for calculating and coming up with the 2025 admission formula.
"The school will conduct data analysis of the examiners organizing the exam and especially the score of the 2025 high school graduation exam. From there, synthesize the results, compare and set this coefficient at different points to ensure relative fairness between the groups of candidates for admission by high school graduation exam scores and groups of candidates with candidates with competent test scores, Mr. Trung said.
On the side of the Ministry of Education and Training, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son said that the Ministry of Education and Training will issue a general conversion framework for admission scores, not distinguishing by industry but based on broad data of all candidates, which can be according to each admission block. From there, schools can adjust to suit their specific conditions but still ensure within reasonable limits.
